Thursday, January 21, 2021

Mental Health Disparities occur when diverse populations, suffer from poor mental health outcomes. Foster Youth tend to have greater mental health concerns than teens who are not in Foster Care. Upwards of 80% of the Youth in Foster Care have significant mental health issues (National Conference of State Legislatures). Of those with mental health issues, they are likely to experience Mental Health Disparities in the form of the over-prescription of psychotropic medications, inconsistent and inadequate access to mental health services. Youth of Color in Foster Care are more likely to receive residential services than community based mental health services. This workshop examines mental health disparities of Foster Youth and ways CASA/GAL can advocate for youth to receive appropriate mental health care.

This training is made possible through a generous grant from the Akron Bar Foundation. Rule 48 approval is pending.
