X-WR-CALDESC:ZOOM\nCASA Staff: Tammy Barnes\n\nChildren and adolescents in
foster care have often experienced episodic\, fragmented\, and inadequate
health care prior to foster care placement. (Task Force for Healthcare for
Children in Foster Care 2005). Child welfare workers\, foster caregivers
and CASA volunteers need to assure children in care receive optimal preven
tive healthcare\, including immunizations and health screenings\, to overc
ome past disadvantages and promote positive healthcare for the children th
ey serve.\n\n This responsibility has become even more challenging as the
number of recommended childhood vaccines has increased exponentially\, whi
le in our information/technology age\, fear of disease has shifted to conc
erns regarding vaccine safety. This workshop explores current immunization
guidelines\, controversies surrounding immunization\, and recommended hea
lth screenings for children of all ages.
