In-Service Training: Kids Say the Darndest Things: Communicating with Young Children
Kids Say the Darndest Things: Communicating with Young Children presented by Sarah Harvan, MA, BA, Training Coordinator of the CASA/GAL Program of Summit County
Spending time with children is often the highlight of a CASA/GAL's duties and responsibilities. But, what happens when the children don't want to talk? How do you redirect those who talk, well, a lot? This workshop will provide examples and practical strategies for CASA/GAL volunteers and staff to effectively communicate with young children and build confidence for interviewing children on their cases.
At the end of this session, participants will:
1. recognize barriers to communication with young children and how to overcome those challenges
2. learn practical tools and interview techniques to use during visits
3. build confidence with interviewing young children
