Honoring CASA Volunteers at the 12th Annual Fundraising Breakfast

We are enternally grateful for the thousands of hours and miles these CASA/GALs have donated over the last 20 plus years.

At the 12th Annual Fundraising Breakfast: Making a Difference One Child at a Time, the CASA Board Volunteer Association and CASA/GAL Program of Summit County honored long-serving CASA/GAL volunteers.

The following CASA/GAL Volunteers were also honored:

With over 20 years of service, Annette Powers, started her CASA journey in June of 1998. During her time as a CASA volunteer, Annette has served 36 children. Annette also serves as an attorney guardian ad litem where she has advocated for numerous children. Annette has been a valuable asset to CASA for over 26 years!

With over 20 years of service, Linda Sell Esq, has been serving as a CASA/GAL since 1981. Linda Sell is the original CASA for Summit County! Linda started as a CASA volunteer in 1981. We don’t have an exact count on the children that Linda has served, as her volunteerism proceeds our record keeping, however, as Linda also takes cases as an attorney guardian ad litem, it would easily surpass 100 children. We are truly thankful for all that Linda has contributed to CASA over her 40 years of service!

With over 20 years of service, Ethel Fox, has been serving as a CASA/GAL since 1987. Ethel “Precie” Seiberling Fox has been an integral part of the CASA/GAL Program since 1987. Precie has been a lifelong advocate for children. Unfortunately, we don’t have an exact count on the children that Precie has served, as her volunteerism proceeds our record keeping. However, we are certain it would easily surpass 100 children! Precie has also served as a mentor, trainer, and recruiter for the program and previously served on the CASA/GAL Volunteer Board Association. Precie is an exceptional advocate for children and a remarkable individual. We have truly been lucky to have her as a part of this program for 37 years.

With over 20 years of service, Elizabeth Regan, has been serving as a CASA/GAL since 2002. Elizabeth “Betty” Regan started her in 2002. Within those 22 years of service, Betty has advocated for over 80 children! Betty may be small, but she is mighty when it comes to advocating for her CASA children. Betty’s kind and caring manner, along with her counseling background, has made for her to be an amazing advocate for children. Betty has limitless kindness, amazing compassion, a strong work ethic, and genuine concern for others. We truly value the years of service Betty has given to the CASA/GAL program of Summit County.

With over 15 years of service, Cheryl Hoover, has spent much of her adult life caring for children as a teacher, director, and advocate. She is a firm believer in the power of play and the importance of social and emotional development. In 2019 she was recognized as the “Juvenile Court Volunteer of the Year”.  Cheryl has been with the CASA program since June 2006 and has served 68 children.

With over 15 years of service, Rhea Marcinko, is a former foster parent and was employed in the medical field when she came to volunteer with CASA in August 2007. During her tenure, Rhea has worked with 22 families and has served on behalf of 45 children and youth. Rhea is always optimistic and focuses on the strengths of people. We are thrilled Rhea has chosen CASA as her volunteer experience.

With over 15 years of service, Bill Breiding, is a recently retired business owner and has been volunteering with the CASA program since 2008. In his almost 16 years of service, Bill has served 16 families and 29 children. Bill’s skills include his ability to work independently while expressing compassion and empathy for everyone involved in his cases. We look forward to working with Bill in the future!

With over 15 years of service, Judi Hill, was employed with the Akron Public Schools for 30 plus years teaching, designing curriculum and serving as an administrator. As a retiree, she is actively involved in the community and serves on a variety of committees and boards. Judi began her service with CASA in 2009. During her 15 years of advocating for children, she has served 20 families, and 40 children. Judi has been praised for the kindness she demonstrates in her role, with the added ability to be firm in her recommendations.

With over 15 years of service, Jackie Stringer has been with the CASA program since January 2008 and has served 30 children. Jackie has been recognized as a “Master Gardener” and is always willing to share her gardening secrets with the CASA staff. Jackie prefers to work with younger children where she feels she can make the biggest difference. We appreciate Jackie’s long-term commitment to the CASA Program!
